Summer Update

I am finally getting around to posting more pictures of our summer happenings. I was going to post more pictures of the house, but I realize I have things I should post about from May, so I will start from there and try to get caught up.

We went to California at the end of May and actually met both of our families there.  We decided to try taking an Amtrak train to Cali instead of driving, and as many of you were very curious about what it was like here are some pics.

We drove 2 hours to the station in Winslow, Arizona...it looked like a ghost town.  Apparently they don't use this building anymore, so you can't buy tickets here, but the train stopped and picked us up just fine.  We just waited by the side of the tracks with a few other people with our luggage and the conductor took our tickets when we got on. 

As reference, Seats were slightly more roomy than airplane seats, and they reclined a little bit more and had this little foot rest that popped up.  For the record, we still didn't get very much sleep  (the train from this station is a red-eye--goes from about 8pm until 7am). 

it might have been worth it to pay extra and get this
"roomette" but it seemed to small to spend another $200-$300 each way for this mini room.  This bench is wider than a standard seat and then there is another one just like it right across from it, and they both lay flat which makes space for one adult to sleep laying down (maybe 2 people if they are super snuggly).  And then a bunk drops right above that for one other person--probably a child.  Seemed pretty clausterphobic to me...but then again after 12 hours of trying to get some shut eye, the thought of being able to lay flat was sounding kinda nice.

Here was the Fullerton, CA station where we stopped. Much nicer--and more civilized than winslow.
